Hello guys, it’s not Christmas yet but we can all see the decorations everywhere in the stores, most people (including me) are SO ready for it !! Or maybe you wonder what you’re going to give your host family .. Well, look no more, I’m here for you. You’re absolutely welcome.
I’ve wrote this article about a year ago, on my old blog when I was a bit more involved with the Au Pair Community. My account was at that time named “My Au Pair Guide”, I’ve changed so many times, I know, I know .. I’ve stopped a bit because I lost myself & needed to see what I really wanted to do with my life. BUT ! There are still many Au Pairs following my new journey in the USA (& I’m oh so grateful for you, you’re the best) & I wanted to repost the exact same article but with updated links.
So here it is, let’s jump right into it my friends :
Christmas is coming, it’s just around the corner & it’s definitely the most wonderful time of the year.
But sometimes it’s also a bit stressful for some of us who are last minute to buy Christmas gifts.
You don’t know what to get to your host parents & host kids ? You only get $195.75 per week so you don’t want to be broke by buying all those Christmas presents ? Don’t worry, I got you. Amazon too, trust me it’s going to be your best friend.
Here is a list of ideas for ALL the family :
Kids under 2 years old
Wooden blocks toys are perfect for the little ones, plus it’s very educative, it’s easy to find some for no more than $10 click HERE
Bath toys are so much fun for them as well click HERE
Kids between 3 to 5 years old
Play Doh, who doesn’t like it ? It’s fun, it smells so good & it’s pretty cheap. It costs between $5.99 & $9.99 depends on the pack you choose click HERE
My little girl at that age used to love the Monster High Doll (which costs $4.99), but you can find other brands for less than $10 as well click HERE
Her twin brother was obsessed with cars & trains, you have a lot of gift packs click HERE
Kids between 5 to 7 years old
My host kids loved art crafts & you can find very nice art set with all they need : painting, pencils, crayons .. click HERE
Kids 7+ years old
Lego works as well for bigger kids !
I’ll be honest with you, I’ve never taken care of teenagers as I preferred being with the little ones. I would think of what I liked when I was their age : books, gift card from a store they like so they can choose what they want. Most of them also have phones, tablets, etc so it could be a very nice cover for their devices.
It works for teenagers if they like beauty products & for host dads as they have a men line as well.
My host mom loves scarves & you can find very cute ones in any retail stores or again Amazon ! As fun or Christmas socks, beanies, gloves, you name it.
Same as host moms ! Don’t get me wrong, gifts are not easy to find in general but for men I think it’s even harder. A nice scarf is always useful, you can find some HERE
Also, if they like to drink, you can find in any supermarkets bottles of wine for less than $10.
Most of the links I gave you are from Amazon. If you order all your gifts at the same time, there is most of the time a free shipping option when your basket is over $25. Or you can apply for Amazon Prime if you don’t have it yet, you have a free trial of 1 month that you can cancel right after 🙂
I hope I’ve got to help you because I know .. the struggle is real !! Don’t worry, sometimes we think we don’t get enough presents for them .. Just remember that in general, our host kids are very spoiled & your host family obviously knows your salary so they don’t expect you to spend all your money on their Christmas presents.
Happy Christmas Shopping everyone 🙂
